For consumers searching for an affordable hybrid, the Toyota Prius has long been the car of choice. Still, it’s a segment that can be dominated instead by the handsome and practical 2020 Fuel Efficient Kia Niro. In the crossover pool, the Niro has many paws, but a manageable, lightweight footprint is preserved. It is also highly effective in its hybrid variant, managing 52 mpg in the city and providing an EPA-rated 239 miles of electrical range in EV form.
New headlights, a new diamond-patterned grille, new LED running lights in a double-chevron configuration, and new 16- and 18-inch wheel styles are the main improvements outside.
For the Niro’s mid-cycle refresh, which so far only applies to the hybrid and the plug-in but not to the electrical variety, Kia kept the light of the change.
Features
We prefer the mid-level LXS trim, which adds many features, such as push-button start, blind-spot detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist, to the spartan base offerings of the Niro. For us, the standard Niro hybrid is the perfect fit (and, we suspect, most drivers). With very few compromises, it provides outstanding fuel economy, and it’s also pretty cheap.
Designing
The car, designed by Peter Schreyer almost entirely at Kia’s Frankfurt workshop, is a sporty three-door subcompact crossover, with butterfly doors opening onto the roof panel. Using lightweight materials, including high-strength steel and aluminum, the Niro utilizes a 139 hp hybrid powertrain that returns 43 to 50 miles per US gallon (5.5 to 4.7 L/100 km) fuel economy. In addition to the Optima Plug-in Hybrid and Optima Sports wagon Plug-in Hybrid, the Kia Niro and Niro Plug-in Hybrid form part of the Kia hybrid range.
Weighed down by 168 pounds of additional equipment, the options-laden touring model we tested required 9.6 seconds to complete the same mission. The Niro easily tackles uneven paths, delivering a controlled, steady trip. However, we noticed an odd amount of impact noise coming into the cabin when driving over bump-ridden highways. Steering responses in the Fuel Efficient Kia Niro are rapid and accurate. The Niro plug-in utilizes the same basic powertrain as the standard model but with a larger battery pack for an extended EV range. According to the EPA, the battery adds up to 26 miles of EV service.
Kia’s products are distinct and have distinctive personalities, despite being the corporate counterpart to Hyundai and sharing features such as platforms and engines. Fully revised construction meets tested hybrid technology.
Fuel Efficient Kia Niro
Without sacrificing interior comfort or cargo space, the 2020 Fuel Efficient Kia Niro offers you fuel economy and SUV-inspired performance, all in a seriously fun-to-drive package. Although Kia was once synonymous with simple, bland transport with stellar guarantees, it now manufactures some of the company’s most striking and competitive vehicles, which still have stellar contracts.
An all-electric variant of the Niro, named Niro EV in Asia and North America and e-Niro in Europe, was unveiled at the International Electric Vehicle Expo in Korea in 2018.
The 39.2 kWh version is powered by a 100 kW (134 hp) permanent magnetic, electric motor with a torque of 395 Nm (291 lb-ft) and can fly up to 288 km (179 mi) on a single WLTP charge. The 64 kWh version provides a WLTP range of 455 km (283 mi) and has a more powerful 150 kW (201 hp) motor that produces the same torque amount. Both are front-wheel drive vehicles. At a maximum price in the US, the Niro EV has an official EPA range of 239 miles.
World Record
In December 2016, when it flew from Los Angeles to New York City with a fuel consumption record of 76.6 mpg, the Niro officially earned a Guinness World Records award for a hybrid vehicle’s lowest fuel consumption. This record was last set in 2011 by the Kia Optima Hybrid, with average fuel consumption of 64.55 mpg.
In the hybrid crossover market, the all-new Kia Niro Hybrid stacks up against some fairly formidable competition. The small crossover is up against the number one Toyota Prius, the iconic Ford C-Max Hybrid wagon, and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. With its sleek exterior, however, it’s got a ton of appeal for crossover shoppers.
Creator Comforts in the Fuel Efficient Kia Niro
Other creator comforts are leather upholstery, a more extensive 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. Also an HD and satellite radio, a Harman Kardon eight-speaker sound system, and LED interior lights. Our Touring Tester options include the Advanced Tech Package ($1,900). With active safety systems such as lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning. Plan the drivetrain for fuel-sipping and crossover utility. As is customary for this price point, some hard surfaces cover the doors, dash, and center console areas.
There are two-way lumbar and height adjustments on the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. The power driver’s seat, make it easy to find the perfect driving position. Soft-touch surfaces exist, however, on the upper parts of the dash and armrests. We put many miles into our Niro, but we never felt tired or tired after long journeys.
It does all of this without you ever pushing the brake or gas pedal. There was a bit of road noise on the open highway. The noise was while traveling on the way to Colorado Springs at 75 mph (yes, this is the speed limit).
Speed Control
Wildly the Smart Cruise Control, which not only keeps you at a constant speed. However, it will slow you down if you pass another car. It then brings the vehicle back to its set level when the traffic flow gets back to normal. With the six-speed automatic transmission, changes come quickly and easily, providing a more friendly driving experience than a CVT automatic. It gets excellent petrol, has enough head and legroom for taller drivers, and has a hatchback utility. Overall, the latest Fuel Efficient Kia Niro 2017 was a robust city commuter and should check out for vehicle families.
There is apparent excellence in the design and packaging throughout. From the second row’s legroom to the way the seats fold and even down to the carpet quality. Panoramic sightlines are created by an upright and boxy body. That leave enough room in all three rows to seat adults. It’s the simple stuff that in the first place made people fall in love with SUVs, and it’s all here.
Kia has produced a premium product at non-premium rates by striving to be high. It’s what we call a moment in the LS400, and that’s important. Have one before Kia knows and raises the price of what it’s done.
